For an even better experience, we have added an option to import songs that you play from an Excel file, which makes adding all your songs into the Setlistory app even faster and simpler.
First, in the “Songs” section, you click on the upload icon, which is to the right of the “New song” button.
Here you will see a link, where you can download the Excel template, which you can pre-fill with all your songs.
Please note that you must not change the template in any way, each column should stay in it’s place. Also, do not delete the first row. The only required fields are TITLE and TYPE, but it is advised that you fill each row with as much data as possible.
The columns are:
- ISWC – The International Standard Musical Work Code (ISWC) of your song, which is a unique, permanent and internationally-recognized reference number used to identify musical works. This column is not required and can be left empty, but it is strongly advised that you fill it out in order to definitively identify the song.
- TITLE – The title of the song. This field is required and should not be left empty.
- TYPE – This field determines, whether the song is an original or a cover. You fill it with ether a lowercase “o” (original), or a lowercase “c” (cover). This field is required and should not be left empty.
- LENGTH – The length of the song. It must be in the mm:ss format, which means minutes, followed by a colon (:) and then the seconds. The field is not required.
- KEY – The key of the song. The field is not required.
- BPM – “Beats per minute” of the song. The field is not required.
- TIME SIGNATURE – It must be in the format beats/measure (for example 4/4, 7/8, 15/16). The field is not required.
- MUSIC AUTHORS – The names of all the music authors of the song. If there are multiple authors, they should be separated by a semicolon (;). The field is not required.
- LYRICS AUTHORS – The names of all the lyrics authors of the song. If there are multiple authors, they should be separated by a semicolon (;). The field is not required.
- ARRANGEMENT AUTHORS – The names of all the arrangement authors of the song. If there are multiple authors, they should be separated by a semicolon (;). The field is not required.
- LYRICS – The lyrics of the song. The field is not required.
When you are finished with filling out the Excel template, you can import it by clicking the “Select file” button, finding and selecting your saved template and then clicking the “Import” button.
Once the import is finished, you will see a screen such as this one:
There are a couple of notes here.
- Firstly, in the example Excel file above, you can see we tried to import 5 songs, but the actual number of songs in the import is 4. That is because the title and type were not filled in one of the rows, so the import ignored this row.
- There were 3 songs created successfully, which means there were no conflicts when importing them (all the successfully imported songs have a green tick next to them).
- There was 1 conflict (song number 3), indicated with the red cross. As the error implies, a song with this title already exists in your Setlistory songs list. The import checks for duplicates of titles and ISWC codes. It it finds a duplicate you have 3 options:
- DUPLICATE – create a duplicate of the song with the same title or ISWC code (this is not advised, you should know what you are doing). Ideally you should have unique ISWC codes for each of your songs.
- UPDATE – override the existing song in your Setlistory songs list with the data from the one in the Excel file.
- CANCEL – Ignore the song from the Excel file, keeping only the existing song.
You should address all the conflicts when importing. Once you do, you can close the modal and you should see all your imported songs in your songs list. Now you can start creating setlists.
